aye so the tour is the two over three tour. anyone who read the total guitar interview should know what that means. _________________ 'one day this will all stop, and I won't have to run or rush and push or try, and I will give back everything I took, I will kiss everyone I love, and I will fall asleep and I won't wake up for weeks and weeks...' |

he had a rant about getting demos from metal bands trying to be clever and writing songs in 3/4. he said 'yeah technically 'cities on fire' is in 3/4 but only for one bar then its in 2 over 3.' _________________ 'one day this will all stop, and I won't have to run or rush and push or try, and I will give back everything I took, I will kiss everyone I love, and I will fall asleep and I won't wake up for weeks and weeks...' |

It means 3 quarter notes (or crotchets) to a bar. In time signatures, the bottom number denotes the duration of each note and the top number states how many there are in each bar. So a song entirely in 7/8 means that there are 7 eighth notes to a bar . |

I don't get what he means by this at all. |

Although it's still in 3/4, the emphasis on the beats changes so there are two equally spaced notes to a bar, the first is on the first beat, the second is between the second and third beat. So the emphasis lies like this, where X is a chord being played and the numbers below refer to the beats of the bar (put in a code box so the text is equally spaced):
Code: |
|1-2-3-|1-2-3-|1-2-3-|1-2-3-|
|
So two over three means that there are three beats in a bar still, but the emphasis is as though there were 2 beats in a bar. Is that badly explained? _________________ Well if you're just gonna be like that

No that's explained well, but that's not really what time signatures are about. 2/3 would mean 2 third notes, which don't exist so I was just a bit confused. |

Yeah I know, it's weird, but at least it was presented as "two over three" rather than "two three", which would imply it was a time signature.
