Finally got home to find the single at my doorstep - I can't say the sound quality is particularly lax to me, with the possible exception of track two.

Might sound stupid but maybe it's just the way you encoded it Rob? Convert the cd to a lossless format like aiff or something then check it out

EDIT: Just seen you've done it into wav. Hmmm, you didn't convert from mp3 to wav did you?

I'm guessing someone who is so concerned with sound quality and is analyzing spectrums knows a thing or two about ripping tracks, would hope so anyway! Very Happy

rob's an audiophile... he will have ripped to wav and analysed that.

no doubt he'll probably feel insulted that you suggested he did it wrong Very Happy

I can hear what he's talking about. And after today, having the album version to compare it with, it's surprisingly apparent. Bit of an odd one.

Album sounds nice and definitely hasn't had anything nasty done to it. Cool to know a few more people can hear it now they have something to compare to.

I could hear the issue before i got the album, but at first assumed it was my bad for converting it to a rubbish mp3 by mistake when I ripped the cd.....but like I say, with the two side by side, It's alarming how obvious the problem is.

Similar to you Rob, I wonder at what stage the problem occurred? I know some mastering studios accept the upload of mp3 tracks to FTP servers, which I find surprising. Did you get round to that email you were going to send?

the studio was sent a cdr of the track from a wav source.

so it would appear that something nasty happened during mastering.

Is the version of What's Good For Me the same as the Racecar Demos one, or is it a newer recording?

I know I'm just some fan with a business degree, but I seriously think seeking compensation and/or money back from the mastering plant should be sought. Depending on what went wrong, I doubt it would be worth persuing as far as court, but at least make the complaint and hopefully that way no other music will suffer the same fate in the future.

I'm almost certain its a newer version, the racecar demos were not good enough quality to be released, and were never intended to be.
I didnt know there was a racecar album demos version of what good for me anyway.
