I've been to loads of gigs and I've never got in the middle of crowd surfing. The guys who were doing it seemed to be enjoying it however, so fair dos.

Once again I cast myself firmly in the "I would like to give a crap but I'm not informed enough to have a solid opinion" category. Go me.

I say nay cos its only ever fun for one person, and a bitch for everyone else.

Actually, I've decided I'm not going to let this go so easily.

You're calling me pathetic for having a go at a kid who was repeatedly kicking me in the head. Then you go onto agree with my opinion that crowd surfing/stage diving is really rather irritating for everyone else. So you're happy to disagree with it on the internet, but not actually to go and tell these kids face to face?

That sir, is pathetic.

People have really pissed me off at gigs (often they have been crowd surfers), but I accept that there are inconsiderate people and I try my best to let it go.
I personally wouldnt set out specifically looking for the person just to have a go at them, there wouldn't be a point. It's not like he was intentionally doing it, or you asked him to stop but he carried on regardless. Then to come across him again and start it up a second time is unnecessary, which is mainly the bit I was refering to as pathetic.

You know I don't think it's best to let it go. If no one tells them how much they're pissing everyone off then they're going to keep doing it. Maybe, just maybe the next time that kid was at a gig he thought 'maybe I shouldn't stage dive as it clearly pisses people off'. You have to tell these people what they're doing wrong.

As for my...'reinforcement' of the point he just happened to be standing next to the door and caught my eye as I was leaving. And I don't think I really 'started it again' as we left, more repeated the 'massive, massive spanner' bit.

I would also like to add that's drunk a rather large amount of beer so was feeling more arguementative than usual. Thing is some people wouldn't have waited until after the set to tell him off, they wold have smacked him one there and then.

The way I see it I did everyone else a favour.

Went to see the yeah yeah yeahs at the Barrowlands the other night. ace gig.
One thing that freked me out though, i was pretty much upfront for most of the night, but when i did move back a little, the amount of crowd surfing dudes i saw landing on girls heads was bloody shocking. literally in some cases as one unfortunate girl burst here nose off the front railings when some guy landed on her head! blood all streaming on her hands and shit, horrible it must have been for her.

So i tried to restore the karma in the venue at the end of the night by running around trying to find the girls to match the shoes i had found.

Smile

Found em too.

I say yes!
Crowd surfing at gigs is to be expected.
If that gets banned it will open the floodgates....maybe moshing will be banned too incase someone breaks a toenail?!
Ok i can understand the people who are general twats deliberately throwing punches ect to hurt other people, is a bit sad.
Generally though i know if i don't want to get hurt at a gig, i'll stand to the side and can still enjoy the band and let everyone else do what they enjoy too without getting pissed off.

The flaw in your logic is that moshing is a choice, you put yourself in that position. Moshing usualy only occurs within a small area. You don't get a choice with crowd surfers unless you're at the very edge.

And can you honestly say you enjoy having people land on your head and being kicked in the face?
