so, how much money roughly would the band see from each CD? i am a firm believer in buying CD's and not copying or downloading, i think its only fair that they get a reasonable sum, anyone have any ideas?

That seriously takes the piss.

I heard that Ray Charles had massive trouble getting signed because he was black, only 1 guy would be his manager. So this guy became his manager at 8 years old and took 95% of all his earnings as part of a contract...

I remember jamie saying they get a pound for every record, at a gig once. I don't think he was being that serious though Very Happy

He more than likely was *points to Ric's post*

Remember the shops will be taking a few quid a go, there's probably a middleman taking his share, the CD itself costs money to print, and then the record label wants their thousands of pounds spent on studio time, videos, touring and other promotion back...

This sucks terribly.

Infact it takes the biscuit. Who gets all the rest?

shop, record company, government.... who else?

no, the majority goes to the shops.. with Let's Stop Hanging out, we made 20p per copy, the distributor made 20-30p per copy and the shops made 1.50 per copy.

sounds really fair doesn't it?

it actually depends on the contract as to whether they have to "pay off" stuff first or not... i don't know whether they do or not.
