Bah. I say grr to all these new fangled inventions

If anyone finds out a site where I can buy the song with phone credit, and download an mp3 of the track, or better still get the song on my mobile, just PM me or something. I'm too old to understand all these media types now...

To un-protect the files:

WMA protected audio. It says you can burn it (3 times) onto a disc. Once you've burned it as audio onto a CD there is no protection on that disc anymore. This means that you can rip it from the CD into your desired format. Just remember whatever bitrate it was encoded at cause there is little point in using one higher than that, it won't sound any better.

iTunes:
The files are protected AAC. There is no limit on the amount of times you can burn the files. Burn the protected AAC file to CD, you can no rip it to your desired format if you want. Remember that a 128kbps AAC file is supposed to be around the equivalent of a 160kbps mp3 file.

If there are any other protected ones, generally burning the fils onto an audio CD-r/rw will get you around and you can rip them to an un-protected format.

It's nice to see Xtra Mile work on iTunes and other such services. I wonder if people outside the UK can get access to them?

I just got it from Karmadownload. It wouldnt work with SMS so i had to use Paypal. Holy crap, the recording quality is incredible. If the whole album has the same live sound as that, I'm gonna need at least 10 spare pairs of underwear...

Wrong.

Re-encoding causes much sharper quality loss than the initial encoding step, hence it is highly advisable to use a higher bitrate if you are forced to re-encode something.

Possibly vaguely useful analogy I've been looking for an excuse to put into words for a while:

You have a pint of water (uncompressed audio file) but you're not that thirsty, and you greatly prefer smaller glasses. So, you quickly tip this water into a half pint glass (compressed audio file). Obviously, you lose quite a bit of water, but it's water you're not bothered about (high frequency audio) because you're not that thirsty, so it doesn't matter in the long run. However, you then notice that this half pint glass has, erm, sharp chipped edges (DRM protection), so you can't really drink from it in the way you would like. You hence wish to transfer it into a different, easy to drink from glass. You quickly tip the water between these glasses, but things don't go as you'd hoped. There is splashing, and not all the water leaves the original glass, and so the new glass doesn't have a full half pint in it. Now you're annoyed, cos you've lost more than you were happy to. You ran the same algorithm twice, but because the second time was already using a deteriorated source, your final output was deteriorated even further.

Smile

(If you don't believe me, rip something from CD to the mp3 bitrate of your choice, then keep converting it again and again and see just how bad you can make it sound Smile)
