It might just be me, but i know bands that haven't had as much sucess as Reuben and they don't work day jobs. maybe there record deal needs a revision... although i very much doubt this is the case. I reckon it makes them feel 'normal' and seen as we all love them for writing songs from a 'normal' point of view ( well i do anyway) it's a wise move all round.

So how come Milo get this fantastic deal and can give up their jobs when their music isn't nearly as marketable as the Reuben boys' stuff?

Look, they are only in their jobs because they need to be. It's all very well to say that they shouldn't be, but maybe where they are now is what makes them such a personal band. Maybe if they got bigger, the pressure of having to churn out albumn after album would get to them...surely having jobs also keeps them sane and helps them write down-to-earth music? anyone actually thoughta bout that?

Good answer. Wink

That deal about whether or not they enjoy their jobs was not my question. Maybe they do enjoy their jobs. But they still need to do them- remember, only one pound of each album they sell actually goes back to the band, and they have to split it three ways, so they sure as hell don't have enough money to quit them. My question was that Reuben 's music is surely more approachable than Milo's (and they have more "chart success" so to speak) and yet there is somehow no money for them to make it when there is for the Milo boys.

And Nick, you have point...

Milo are approachable enough to get into the charts a lot higher than Reuben, hence more money.

milo actually strike me as being somehow more marketable than reuben, thanks to their broader range of sounds, distinctive image plus when they get melodic its a really commercial, almost poppy sound.

besides fiction/polydor are an awful lot richer than xtra mile so they can afford to give milo advances big enough to live off, even if milo can't pay it off right now.
